Build quality on the Tempest is a lot like the IXS Pro Rain shorts but the fit is better on the front. The three- quarter design means it’s longer in the leg, so it should fit more body types and there’s no need for compromise on sizing.

The waterproof, micro-rip stop shell fabric is lightweight and has an excellent DWR treatment – water literally ran off the front of this short. The leg length is spot-on and Madison even drops the hem at the front of the leg so it doesn’t ride up when pedalling. Two poppers are better than one and both the fly and hip pockets feature waterproofed zips to stop water –ingress. The Tempest even has a silicone gripper on the waist to stop it slipping.

The design is well-thought out, crammed with features and is amazing value. If you want good performance at a low price, this is a great choice.
